KMF is pleased to announce these recipients of the KMF Leadership Grant:
2012
- Jonathan Barry (MSPH, MD, University of Tennessee; Ensign (O-1), United States Navy Reserve) will present curricula this spring at two national public health conferences in Washington, D.C.
- Neil Murthy (MD, University of Texas Southwestern Medical School) will attend the American Medical Association Annual Meeting in Chicago, where he will serve on the Committee on Global and Public Health.
- Helen Olsen (BA, Geography, and BS, Public Health, University of Washington) will travel this summer to Sierra Leone to do field work related to family planning.
- Hilary Rees (MPH, University of Arizona) will complete field work this summer with AMAPeru related to her degree studies in Peru.
2011
- Ann C. Herbert (MPP, University of Chicago) traveled to Nigeria to present her work with the Global Health Initiative at the Medical Women Association of Nigeria’s 17th Biennial Conference.
- Anjalee Kohli (PhD, Johns Hopkins University) presented research on a Congolese intervention to reintegrate of female survivors of sexual violence into their families and communities, at a conference in Cape Town, South Africa.
- Anna Maria Oprecsu (MPH, Columbia University), a Romanian-American international public health leader, used her KMF Leadership Grant to offset the cost of her studies.
- Megan Griffin (MPH, University of Massachusetts at Amherst) attended the Center for Digital Storytelling Workshop in Berkeley, California.
- Brian Vanderheyden (BA, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse) attended the joint Wisconsin Women’s Studies Conference and the University of Wisconsin’s System LGBTQ Conference, where he presented his current research project on students’ perception and health behaviors based on their sexual identities.
- Bhavini Patel (MPH, UT Southwestern Medical School) attended the AMSA’s 2011 Annual Convention in Washington, DC, where she presented a community-based research project related to her work addressing obesity among underserved patients at a health clinic.
Purpose
Each KMF Leadership Grant recognizes a public health student leader, recommended by his/her department, who is seeking support in at least one of the following areas:
- *pursuing or completing his/her education
- *attending a public health field event or conference
- *pursuing an individual field project related to public health
Amount
Each KMF Leadership Grant is set between $100 and $500 of financial support, as determined by the selection committee in review of the application.
Timeline
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Applicants will be notified of a final decision by email or phone—please note in your application if the funding request is urgent. Recipients will be announced on the website and in KMF communications thereafter.
Process
To apply for a KMF Leadership Grant, please complete in full the embedded application document below, and upload the required documents.
Incomplete applications will not be considered. It is the responsibility of the applicant to submit a complete application.
All applications must be submitted online. There is no “hard copy” application option for a KMF Leadership Grant.
